Winners of Happy Hearts Love Sharks HK wedding contest 2012 announced!

Today on World Ocean Day (8 June 2012), The Hong Kong Shark Foundation announced the winners of Happy Hearts Love Sharks Wedding Contest 2012.

The lucky couple who will be flying to Fiji for a romantic eco-honeymoon is Cloudy and Stephen. They are getting married in December 2012, received the largest amount of votes at a whopping 986 and said “We believe in love and in the balance between nature and humans. It is not right to have sharks sacrificed just for our wedding banquet. A lot of our friends, relatives and even the public were aroused by this competition, to stop the act of eating sharks fin, not only at wedding banquets, but also in their daily life. I hope the competition will be held annually to educate people and change the unsustainable and cruel practice of shark-finning forever.”

The ‘Golden Happiness Prize’ was awarded to Casta & Edward who received 499 votes, tied-the-knot in February 2012. The newlyweds, who invited 900 guests to their ‘shark free’ wedding, received a Venture Photography package worth over 10,000 HKD. The second runners-up Cherrie & Lester – the Silver Celebration Prize winners - received 206 votes, was awarded a couple’s spa treatment from Sense of Touch which they will be able to enjoy in preparation of their August 2012 wedding.

The competition gained the support of 62 couples who pledged to have ‘shark free’ weddings and thus managed to save over 16,000 bowls of shark fin soup!

We would like to give our heart-felt thank you to all HHLS partners, sponsors and contestants for their kind support. Your participation made this campaign a true success and spread the awareness of shark conservation across a wider audience in the Hong Kong society.  We look forward to Happy Hearts Love Sharks Wedding Contest – Hong Kong 2013!

THANK YOU!

April Togetherness Prize Winners Announced!

We are delighted to have Ms Jenny Pat, Host of “Dealers” on Discovery Channel and Director of Gallery Article as our independent judge of April’s Togetherness Prize. Jenny selected Ngo and Chuen because they made one realize that it’s not necessary to celebrate one’s special day at the expense of the deaths of other creatures. “What they said made me feel the suffering of sharks”, said Jenny.

The couple was awarded two dining vouchers sponsored by Linguini Fini and Posto Pubblico, each valued at HK$500.

Congratulations Ngo & Chuen!

March Togetherness Prize Winners Announced!

Congratulations to the shark-loving couple Helen and Jay! Among 18 couples who entered the contest in March. Helen and Jay were selected as winners of the March Toegtherness Prize by Mr Timothy Ng, Deputy Director of Ocean Park Conservation Foundation, Hong Kong.

“Marriage is a special event with blessing from the guests to the newlyweds, it is warm and full of joy and happiness. The part that I like the most is, apart from they don’t offer shark fin soup to their guests, they call for joint action from other wedding couples to save the sharks together. I hope they can continue to spread this message to their friends such that more people can support this in the future,” said Timothy.

The lovely couple was awarded a two-hour wedding planning consultation sponsored by the Marriage Maestros – a renowned wedding planning establishment who provides top-notch wedding planning services.

February’s Togetherness Prize Announced!

We are happy to announce that the long-awaited February Togetherness Prize went to the lovely couple Julia and YS, they would enjoy a HK$8,000 outdoor photography shoot sponsored by MTM Workshop.

We were honored to have Ms Audrey Eu, member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong and the former (founding) leader of the Civic Party as the independent judge this time.  Audrey said “I like the fact that they mentioned upgrading the menu to choose an alternative to shark fin and not just saying no to shark fin.  They said the guest enjoyed the food and it shows that saying no to shark fin is not just a negative prohibition but you can turn it into something enjoyable.”

We wanted to celebrate the Valentine’s Day, therefore as a belated Valentine’s Day gift, Julia and YS would enjoy a bundle of natural skincare products valued at up to HK$800 sponsored by Eternal Concept®!

Congratulations Julia & YS!
